Compliance & Ethical Standards

Our Commitment to Lawful, Ethical Investigations

Spotlight Corporate Investigations is committed to delivering professional investigative services that meet the highest standards of legality, ethics, and accountability. Our work is carried out exclusively for legal professionals, insurers, HR departments, and corporate clients, and is designed to withstand legal, regulatory, and evidential scrutiny.

We recognise that investigative work carries significant legal and reputational implications for our clients. For this reason, compliance is not an add-on to our services — it is central to how we operate.

Regulatory & Legal Framework

All services provided by Spotlight Corporate Investigations are conducted in accordance with:

  • Applicable EU Data Protection legislation (GDPR)

  • Relevant employment, privacy, and surveillance law

  • Principles of necessity, proportionality, and accountability

Our investigators are trained to operate within clearly defined legal boundaries at all times.

Surveillance & Data Protection

Lawful Surveillance Practices

Our surveillance services are designed to obtain objective evidence through lawful physical observation and documentation. We do not engage in intrusive or unlawful monitoring practices.

GPS Tracking Devices

Spotlight Corporate Investigations does not deploy GPS trackers, vehicle-tracking devices or similar electronic location-monitoring equipment as part of any covert investigation.

Location tracking can involve the collection of personal data and represents a particularly intrusive form of surveillance. In the United Kingdom, its use may engage the UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, privacy rights and, depending on the circumstances, laws concerning trespass, interference with property, harassment or other civil or criminal liability.

The fact that tracking equipment is commercially available does not mean that its deployment is lawful, proportionate or ethically justified. Given the significant legal, privacy, evidential and ethical risks associated with covert electronic tracking, Spotlight Investigations maintains a strict policy prohibiting its use on investigative assignments.

Our surveillance work instead relies upon:

  • Physical observation by appropriately trained and vetted investigators.

  • Lawful, necessary and proportionate investigative methods.

  • Continuous human judgement, oversight and accountability.

Evidence Integrity & Reporting

All investigative findings are:

  • Accurately recorded and contemporaneous

  • Supported by verifiable sources

  • Presented in clear, factual, and objective reports

  • Suitable for legal review, claims assessment, and internal decision-making

We do not speculate, exaggerate, or offer legal conclusions.

Client Protection & Risk Management

Our compliance-first approach is designed to:

  • Reduce exposure to GDPR complaints and regulatory scrutiny

  • Ensure evidence is usable and defensible

  • Protect insurers, employers, and legal teams from downstream liability

  • Support ethical and proportionate decision-making

We regularly engage with legal advisors and clients to ensure investigations remain within an appropriate and lawful scope.

Confidentiality & Data Handling

All client instructions and investigative materials are handled with strict confidentiality. Data is:

  • Collected only where a lawful basis exists

  • Retained only for as long as necessary

  • Stored securely with military-grade encryption

  • Disclosed solely in accordance with client instruction and legal obligation
